Cutting metal that does not warp.

Stainless steel that warps under plasma or laser is work you do twice. A waterjet cuts cold: the crystal structure of the material does not change and the plate stays dimensionally stable, even when you run one after another through the machine. The parts go on to the next operation with no burrs and no need for reworking.

What it delivers

The gain is in the operation you do not have to do.

In sheet metal, cost efficiency is not in the cut itself but in what comes after it. An edge that leaves burrs, or a plate that has started to pull, costs you an operation that was not in the calculation. A waterjet delivers a smooth cut with no burrs and no need for reworking, so the part goes straight on to the next operation.

On top of that comes unmanned cutting. You set up the job and the machine keeps cutting: switch on, go home, see the result in the morning. Those are running hours you do not have to pay for with extra staffing.

Three benefits
01No reworkingNo burrs, so the part goes straight on to the next operation.
02Unmanned cuttingMore running hours from the same staffing.
03Dimensionally stable sheetThe plate does not pull, so the fit is right at the weld.

What sits under the head

From stainless steel to titanium.

We cut almost everything, among them stainless steel, hardened steel, aluminium, copper and titanium. Metal always goes with abrasive. Because the process is cold, the crystal structure does not change: the fixed, ordered build-up of a metal at microscopic level stays as it was. That makes the technique suitable for high-end alloys where the mechanical properties have to be preserved.

  • Stainless steel, hardened steel, aluminium, copper and titanium
  • Always with abrasive, in material thicknesses from 1 to 200 mm
  • Alloys that do not tolerate the heat of a laser

Cutting at an angle

Weld preparation in the same pass.

With the 2.5D cutting head you cut at an angle up to ±55°, positive and negative, with ±360° rotation. For sheet metal that goes on to be welded, that means the seam preparation comes along in the same pass instead of as a separate operation.

The head works with abrasive and with pure water, up to 4,000 bar. You combine it with a second cutting head or with the DR-4 drill unit on the same machine.

Customer in practice

AFW no longer outsources its cutting.

That waterjet has brought us so many more possibilities. The flexibility you create with it is unmatched; you really can do everything yourself.

Apparaten Fabrikage Waalwijk makes custom metalwork in small batches, up to fifty pieces, and handles maintenance and overhaul for the LNG and hydrogen sector. A good ten years ago a waterjet of their own arrived in the workshop. What that machine delivered was not primarily a lower bill, but work that had not been there before: jobs that used to be turned down because the material or the batch did not fit could suddenly be taken on.

Not sure whether
it adds up?

Send us the work you currently think is better outsourced. We will cut a test piece of it, so you can see on your own material what would be possible in house. We normally do not charge for that test cut.
