Openings in foam, without an extra cut.

An internal opening in a foam panel cannot be freed with a band saw without an extra cut and visible saw marks. A water jet starts where you let it start and follows the contour in one pass. At Merford in Gorinchem that has been happening since 2009 on an ACM that is still there.

What it solves

The opening that would not come out.

Soft material is not the same as easy material. A band saw has to start somewhere, so an opening in the middle of a panel costs an extra cut that you can see afterwards. And a rough edge or a wrong opening disturbs exactly what the panel was made for.

Which method fits depends on your material. For softer material such as foam, gasket material and insulation material, pure water is often enough; whether abrasive is needed we determine together with you, if necessary on the basis of a test cut.

Two routes

A machine of your own, or separate components.

Most customers buy a complete cutting system and put it in their own workshop, as Merford did. If you cut foam within a production line you build yourself, we also supply separate components: a pump, a table or a cutting head.

What we do not do is the integration into your line. We supply the components and the customisation on them; the building in you do yourself or with your own machine builder.

Seventeen years on, it is still running.

With a waterjet, you can cut that cut-out directly, without an extra cut.

Merford in Gorinchem develops and produces acoustic solutions: melamine foam, rubber sound-absorbing panels and the plasterboard finish for doors. With band saws they ran into a limit, because they could not get internal openings out without an extra cut and unnecessary saw marks. Since 2009 they have been cutting on an ACM waterjet that still runs as new. When the company wanted to grow, a second one arrived in March 2026.

Send us your material and your drawing and we will cut a test piece. Then you see the cut and the edge quality on your own foam instead of on someone else's. We normally do not charge for that test cut.
