The DR-4, drill first, then cut.

The DR-4 is an optional drilling unit on the X-carriage. It mechanically makes a start hole before the waterjet begins to cut, for materials such as HPL, acrylic and laminated material.

On the X-carriage The DR-4 drill unit drills a start hole in a carbon composite sheet; to the left the cutting head that cuts the contour next.
How the DR-4 works

Drill a start hole first, then cut.

The DR-4 is an optional drilling unit that rides along on the ACM's X-carriage. Before the waterjet starts cutting, the DR-4 mechanically drills a start hole. Once the hole is there, the waterjet takes over the cutting and follows the contour. That way every cut starts at a clean, pre-drilled point instead of at a hole pierced by the jet.

  • For HPL, acrylic and laminated material
  • Drills the start hole all the way through the material
  • After that the waterjet takes over the cutting
Why a start hole helps

Materials that need a clean start.

With materials such as HPL, acrylic and laminated material, the start of the cut is the delicate moment. The DR-4 solves that by first drilling a start hole that goes all the way through the material. The waterjet then starts from that hole and finishes the contour.

The DR-4 is an addition to the cutting head, not a replacement: you combine the drilling unit with the 2D or 2.5D cutting head on the same machine.

In short
01 Drilling The DR-4 mechanically drills a start hole, all the way through the material.
02 Cutting The waterjet starts from the hole and cuts the contour.
03 Combinable Works together with the 2D or 2.5D cutting head on the same machine.
