Merford - Resato Waterjet

Merford has once again chosen Resato waterjet

Last month, we installed an ACM-2040 at Merford. This was no ordinary installation; it is already the second Resato Waterjet cutting table for Merford, following the installation of the first machine in 2009. We spoke to Peter Fernig, Operations Manager at Merford, about the company, their applications and the decision to opt for a second waterjet from Resato Waterjet Technology.

“At Merford, we develop solutions to control noise, improve acoustic comfort and enhance safety,” explains Peter. “In doing so, we ensure that people can live and work safely. From our production facility in Gorinchem, we manufacture all kinds of solutions and use the Resato Waterjets to cut a wide range of materials. Think, for example, of melamine foam, rubber sound-absorbing panels and plasterboard for finishing doors.”

According to Peter, this fits perfectly with Merford’s mission: “Our slogan ‘Shaping sound to enhance people’s well-being’ really comes to life with the waterjet. The waterjet can cut all our different materials, largely using only water and without the pump capacity needing to be pushed to its limits.”

That this contributes to sustainability and a long machine lifespan is evident from the first machine. The Resato waterjet from 2009 is still running smoothly and functions as if it were brand new. A fine testament to both the quality of the machine and the care with which Merford treats its equipment.

Peter is also clear about why Merford opted for waterjet technology at the time: “With a traditional band saw, we cannot always cut materials in the desired ways. For example, if you need a cut-out in the middle of a sheet, you first have to saw your way there. This creates a saw cut in the material that is not always desirable. With a waterjet, you can cut that cut-out directly, without an extra cut. For us, this is particularly valuable when it comes to vibration damping solutions for machines, as these are often not flat and require specific cut-outs.”

Peter Fernig: “We are shaping sound with all the possibilities that the Resato waterjet has to offer.”

The decision to acquire a second waterjet stemmed from both practical and strategic considerations. “The existing machine is now almost 17 years old,” explains Peter. “We noticed that the options for keeping the software up to date are gradually running out. For now, the machine is still working well, but the expectation is that it will eventually no longer be able to receive updates. That was a key reason for us to expand. In addition, we have the ambition to grow further in the coming years. This naturally creates a need for extra capacity. That is why we decided to invest in a second waterjet. The choice naturally fell on Resato again, as we have had good experiences with them.” That choice has now become a reality: the machine has been installed and Merford is now operating two Resato waterjets simultaneously.

Moreover, Merford goes beyond simply providing noise control solutions. The company also offers total solutions for, for example, machine manufacturers. Customers specify the stock levels they wish to maintain, after which Merford ensures these are always kept up to date. In addition, Merford maintains its own stock levels so that the customer never runs short. In this way, Merford actively contributes to a smooth and reliable production process.

With the installation of the second waterjet, Merford has once again opted for the versatility, reliability and continuity offered by Resato. This marks a significant step in the continued growth of a customer that has relied on Resato Waterjet Technology’s waterjet technology for many years.
